Ignorance is Bliss.

During the American Revolutionary war there were a numerous times when things went wrong but somehow it still worked out. The British general Lord Cornwalis was often frustrated that the Colonial Army kept plugging away - "won't somebody tell George Washington that he should have surrendered by now". The next thing you know George Washington is crossing the Delaware and pulling off an unexpected victory.
Admittedly, sometimes ignorance can be deadly and sometimes in sales that is true. However there is another type of ignorance. The refusal to understand or accept that something can't be done, a prospect can't be reached, a competitor can't be beaten or a deal can't be won. This is the stuff that Washington was made of and the type of intuition you want in your salespeople.
Sometimes when we try and reach "veterans" or we are encouraging the concept of changing the resistance, what we get from the old guard is lots of "can't or shouldn't or won't". But when you bring in someone new: someone hungry, someone who is unaware of that baggage, interesting things start to happen. So yes - Ignorance can be deadly, but the right kind of Ignorance can be bliss.
