Airport Pat Downs and Sales Force Accountability

This being the busiest travel weekend of the year we have heard much in the news about changes in Airport security. Either get a full body scan or get a full body pat down. For the record I feel that neither one is intrusive nor bothersome. I am flying to Kuala Lumpur in a week and will no doubt go through this several times - no big deal. I don't understand the complaints. I also have nothing to hide.

The guy who hit the news saying "don't touch my junk" should have been told to leave and that he should explore other means of travel. He doesn't belong in an airport or on a plane and yet he appears to have many sympathizers. (reality check nobody wants to touch your junk)

What's the sales lesson here?

Well ALL sales teams require some measure of accountability and all sales people should be used to and accepting of these measures. It's just part of the job. Sometimes this accountability is like a full body screen - high tech, quick and efficient, but if somebody doesn't want to work with that (crm, metrics etc) then the full body pat down comes into play. If a rep does not want any of the options and resists and causes trouble and incites trouble and question motives - take the train, flying is not for you!

Very interesting analogy. So, we get a CRM system and ask our salespeople to keep it relevant. If they don't, we debrief them to the point of a third degree, which is a step up in intensity, intrusiveness and discomfort. We hope that to avoid the discomfort, they keep their CRM up to date. If not, they walk. Seems simple!

This also makes me think of the difference between what and why. If you understand why you would be asked to do something then what you have to do becomes common sense. Why is the compelling reasons, what is merely the activities. Arguing about what is just people making up excuses.
