Thinking about the Red Sox and Winning at Sales

I know. I know. I'm not Dave Kurlan. I've learned most of what I know about baseball from my sons, my wife, my inlaws and reading Baseline Selling. Trust me. This post doesn't require me or you to be an expert on baseball or an avid fan of any team.
Last night, the Red Sox lost to the Jays, but wound up winning the wild card because the Rangers lost to the Angels. Both games happened in a regulation ball park. Both games were played with regulation baseballs, bats, baselines, etc. The difference that caused the games to be won or lost was how well the players played.
Think about you, your business, your industry, your competition. When you win a piece of business instead of your competitor, is it because you're better than your competition?
Or is it because your competition is worse than you?
Bigger picture, how's your season going? Will you make the playoffs or are you going home?
