Nostradamus and You

If he were alive today, Nostradamus would be celebrating his 506th birthday. Why is that important? It's not except that Nostradamus is best known for being able predict future events. However, if you read deeper, you'll learn that many of his 'prophesies' weren't recognized until an event happened and someone took the time to check his works to see if he predicted anything like it. I'm not intending to be disrespectful, but if you make thousands of predictions about the future, some of them are going to be very similar to stuff that actually happens.

So what? Why are we thinking about Nostradamus?

It's December 14th. Just over two weeks before 2010 is here. What were you thinking about a year ago? Not what were you hoping for. What were you fearing? What were you concerned about? Not what were you setting for goals. What did you think was going to happen? I was talking with a business owner a couple of weeks ago about next year. They told me what they'd like to do, but they also told me what they thought could do. Huh?

So, last year, this time, were you thinking about what you were gonna do or what was gonna happen? Now, that 2009 is nearing its end, did you do what you were gonna do or did it just happen? Are you ready for 2010? Are you gonna do or is it gonna happen?

What will we be saying about you next year? You did this and this and this or will we be searching all the predictions that you made to see if any of them happened?

Good post, Rick!

Every New Year, I make a massive blog post where I state my "resolutions" (i.e. business plans) for my job... and compare what I've accomplished with what I set out to do the prior year. It's been a great exercise in pushing me to do better - and evaluating my self/business. And it adds in accountability because I posted it for others to see. :) Best to you & your plans/resolutions in this coming year!
