Miracle Sales Process Formula

Yesterday, we went to the Museum of Science in Boston. Before we left, Elaine had to visit the Museum Store which meant that I had to amuse myself because we have very different shopping styles and interests (and mine are useless). As I meandered the shelves and racks of dinosaurs, bugs, puzzles, books, etc....

I'll come back to the story. I just want to share the saying on a T-shirt that I saw a lady (who shouldn't have been wearing a T-shirt) wearing. It read: "I'm right 97% of the time and I don't care about the other 4%!" Remind you of anybody?

OK, back to the bookstore....

There was a T-shirt in the math area that had a cartoon of a mathemetician reviewing a formula on a white board. The formula looked something like this.

X = Ʊ + A/c2(Ǧƿȶ→→→r) + T

Then a miracle happens!

The caption under the cartoon read, "You might want to take another look at the second step."

Ha ha - thanks for the funny story. And like all funny stories - funnier because it's so true! We are a culture that confuses movies with real life, and in the movies, things - no matter how bad they are - come together by the end. People get saved. Crises are overcome. The magic formula is discovered, and the world is saved. The problem is that watching movies is a totally passive activity. We don't have to actually do anything, and everything still works out. So - we're trained to just know that things will work out without us having to do anything but sit there. Is it any wonder that people just don't get that an 'overnight success' takes years, sometimes decades? That we tend to sit there and wait for our miracle, just knowing that one of these days it's going to happen, and all we have to do is wait?
